JEE Main is a online test conducted by National Testing Agency for students aspiring to pursue undergraduate courses in top engineering institutes in India. It is the first phase of the IIT Joint Entrance Exam.
The examination is conducted in two sessions and candidates can take the exam either in the month of January or in April. The candidates can further opt to appear for one exam or both the exams. The better of two NTA scores will be considered by the exam conducting authority in preparing the ranks/merit list.
JEE Main 2020 will comprise of three papers.
- Paper 1 will be for students who are planning to take B.Tech courses
- Paper 2 will be B.Arch programs
- Paper 3 will be for B.Planning courses
NTA has introduced the new exam pattern for the upcoming 2020 exam. Meanwhile, the registration and application process for the January session starts in September and for the April session, it usually begins in the month of February.
More significantly, students are granted admission to IITs, CFITs, NITs, and other Government funded technical institutes based on the marks obtained in JEE Main. Also, the top 2,50,000 students from JEE Main will qualify to appear for JEE Advanced.

Subject-wise list of all the chapters covered in the syllabus of JEE Main 2020 is provided here. The topic-wise weightage of IIT JEE is highly uncertain, therefore, the students are advised to prepare the entire syllabus without skipping. JEE Main syllabus is mapped as per class 11 and class 12 NCERT textbooks to ensure uniformity across the country.
